Frequently Asked Questions
What do you charge?
I charge £150 per hour or £700 per 7-hour day.
What is your business structure?
I am an individual but I contract through an umbrella company. The umbrella company will be responsible for invoicing you my fees on a monthly basis. Their costs are built into my charges.
Is there a minimum fee?
Yes, but it is only one hour, or one day, depending on what you ask for. I round up to the nearest unit requested.
Can you work in country Y?
Yes. The principles are universal and I can perform harmonic and power quality studies and assess compliance to the IEC 61000 series or the ENA ER series of standards.
Where are you located?
This will vary. I am location-independent and my consulting work is done remotely. I can share screens and files securely with your team to collaborate.
We have an important meeting with the utility/regulator, can you be there?
If I need to be there, then I can be there. You will need to pay associated travel expenses and provide sufficient notice.
Can you work in our office to validate our contractor's study?
Give me a call to discuss these requirements. I can work with any project team anywhere in the world.
Can we trust you to deliver?
I will never commit to something I cannot deliver. I understand the limitations of my knowledge and skills and can help you to find suitable people if the work is beyond the scope of my expertise.
This is certainly... different. Are you serious?
People who have worked with me in the past will know that the answer is yes, I can be. But I also like to enjoy my work, challenge existing ways of working and find new solutions. I applied this logic to my life, to my career with National Grid, and it is now the underlying principle of PQrisk: a new business model for independent freelance consultation that is streamlined, friendly and effective.
I believe that I have found a way of working that is ideally suited to highly niche specialist disciplines such as power quality.
